Christmas
Been along time since I have wrote an article...I have been off on hiatus, *L* had alot of things going on out of cyberspace but I am back and my hopeful new year's wish is to write my article more *G* .

Whether you are spending this time of year with someone you love or with family, Christmas has a special kind if magic. It has always been the one time of year when most can put away their grudges and be happier than any other time.

When people just smile at strangers, help out little children, go home to family… There is a twinkle and a mist of magic that surrounds everything it was often my favorite thing...that magic.

This year I didn't feel it, till well, about today, and even still it is small, I got so caught up in my stresses and unhappiness that I didn't watch the lights, or count my blessings, or remember how lucky I am. My heart wasn't in it...it was somewhere else.

So my advice is if you don't feel that spirit, smile a little, look at the twinkle of lights, watch a child, call a friend, make up, forgive a grudge, put down hard feelings, toss your stresses aside for a moment and embrace a moment of the magic. Curl up and watch something from your childhood, or curl up with someone *EG* make your magic however YOU see fit.

I wish Chatters one and all ~Happy Holidays~ for whatever holiday you are celebrating and may the New Year be all that you dream and wish for and more...may the little bit if magic from the season stay with you longer than the 1st.

I will see you after the New Year and as always keep an open heart. *huge hugs*

Christmas Q & A
We posted questions for the past few weeks in the Zine, as you may have noticed, however our replies were not as numerous as we'd hoped. But we did get a few...

1. Who would you most like to get caught under the mistletoe with this holiday?

2. How many watts of electricity do burn on your Christmas lights? 3. Who would you most like to spend your Christmas holidays with? 4. What would be the ideal gift to find under your tree this year? 5. How do you celebrate the holidays? 6. How did the celebration of Christmas on Dec. 25th get started?

~Chat Dominatrix~

Due to the Holiday, and my lack of good time management, there will only be the quotes information from me this week, no article.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you have had a wonderful, safe, and memorable holiday!

My Two Cents

Christmas

Let me start by answering some of my own questions from last week. What? Did you think I would ask the question if I didn't have the answers? Of course not! So, here goes:

Why has Christmas gotten to be such a Commercial holiday, rather than a Religious Holy Day?

Christmas, as we know it today, is the culmination of years of slow transformation. It was a farce from the beginning and has since grown into something even more unrecognizable as a "Holy Day". The original creation of Christmas, and the date it was celebrated, has no relevance to the actual birth of Christ. The date was chosen to coincide with pagan celebrations in order to give the pagans a familiar holiday to ease in the conversion of the pagans to Christianity (or at the Catholicism). The Roman Catholic Church practiced was a pantheology, from the Greek Pantheion, shrine of all the gods. A pantheology is a system of theology embracing all religions, which is, in essence what the Roman Catholic Church did, by incorporating the gods and idols of those that they converted, into the Christian religion. By establishing holidays that coincided with their festivals, creating patron saints to replace the multiple gods of other cultures for various purposes and by elevating the status of the Virgin Mary for those that worshipped a female god. Now, you may ask, How has this caused the Commercialization of Christmas today? Well, since the holiday was never really a "Holy Day" to begin with, the continued addition of aspects of other cultures continued. Yule logs from this culture, gift giving from another, the Christmas tree itself all gradually leading farther and farther away from the Birthdate that it was supposed to be celebrating. With the rise of multi-culturalism and the secular movement, the Christ in Christmas continues to be pushed farther and farther from the main focus. Thereby, giving way to the other "traditions" of gift giving, fancy lights and trees taking the forefront of the celebration.

Why has a fat bearded white guy come to symbolize Christmas more so than the Person whose birth it is "supposed" to be celebrating?

First, you might be thinking that "Saint Nick" aka Santa Claus isn't so much a symbol of Christmas as he is a fairy tale for the kids. Something akin to the tooth fairy. Actually, however, if you take a look around, I would be willing to bet you can count more sleigh and reindeer decorations than Nativity Scenes. Why? Again it is an effort to remove the religious implications of the holiday. The birth of the Son of God is too serious for some people to handle and, considering the commercialism that has grown up around the holiday, a "jolly old elf" with magic reindeer is more commercially appealing. Again this touches on the "separation of church and state" issue. Big Nativity Scenes outside City Halls, County Courthouses and other government buildings and schools are a thing of the past, again replaced by a magical elf, flying reindeer the magical ability to deliver toys to all the kids of the world in a single magical night. With the community leadership no longer able to display the "original intent" of Christmas, the community itself slowly turned away from the religious aspects of Christmas and has accepted, without question, the rise of the jolly fat man and his magical toy factory.

Why is it that some schools are no longer allowed to celebrate Halloween in school (because it is a "religious holiday"), but Christmas is still OK?

This one truly amazes me in it's simultaneous rightness and wrongness in logic. Halloween (the eve of All Saints Day) is again an example of a manufactured "Holy Day", but still a church-based holiday. Therefore, by the misguided interpretation of separation of church and state, it should not be celebrated in school, but that is not why they discontinued it. The "official" reason that Halloween is no longer celebrated is because of the gory costumes that kids were wearing. Now since Christmas is still OK in schools, then one can only assume that if the costumes had not been so bad, then Halloween would still be OK as well. But yet, both are "religious holidays" and therefore , neither should be allowed under the twisted separation issue.  That, hwever, is not the case, Christmas is still OK because it helps teach kids about giving, etc, but Halloween is bad because of the scary costumes.

Does anyone out there see the logic in this at all?

Why is it that public school children cannot pray in school, but they can exchange Christmas gifts and celebrate, what is billed as, the birth date of Christ, the Son of God?

Christmas is still celebrated in schools because it helps teach kids about giving and prepares our kids for a future of giving in the way of taxes. Get them used to the idea that they should give up their own for the sake of the "downtrodden". Now don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer in giving to charity, helping out the less fortunate and things of that nature. What I am referring to is the redistribution of wealth, the Robin Hood syndrome. I say this not only because of the manner in which they celebrate Christmas within the schools, but because of the context of the school system itself. I see, in my children's "educational" materials from school, the liberal socialist agenda spelled out in black and white. From animal rights activism, to environmental extremism, to gender sensitivity and acceptance of "alternative lifestyles". Through not only Christmas, but fund raisers and other "school activities", they teach our kids that it is OK to hit their parents up for money, donations, sponsorships, etc. for the sake of a "good cause" or to help those who aren't so well off. Again, however, all of the above is not bad each in and of itself, however the combination of them all, within the confined of the liberal socialistic propaganda that I have seen, adds up to what appears to be full scale indoctrination of our youth with no balancing views or opinions. Why have our schools been taken over in such a manner? Simply because each step of the process was done slowly and in a manner that sounds and/or looks good on the surface. Religion and prayer were removed from the picture because they posed a threat to this agenda. The Bible, for example, speaks of "Man" having dominion over plants and animals of the earth. This is a scary thought to the tree-hugging, bunny lovers of the world. Having dominion over, does not preclude the ability to care for the same, but it does hold the power to say that the will or the needs of "Man" come before the spotted owl, speckled toad or wetlands swamp rat. But, to those who believe that we are descended from animals (evolved) it is tantamount to patricide for us to exercise such dominion. Therefore, the removal of religion and the rise of teachings such as evolution feed the liberal agenda.

Now before the accusations of me being some sort of conspiracy theorist abound, let me say this, I do not believe that the current situation in our public schools, the current commercialization of Christmas or any other of the many other areas where religion is being pushed out of the public scene is the result of some clandestine conspiracy. It has been a gradual process brought on by many factors. I will say that there are those, especially in recent years, that have taken advantage of the situation to further advance that liberal agenda and promote the indoctrination of our youth. Christmas is a fine example of how long these things have been in the process, but even in it's current less-than-Holy state, Christmas still carries with it some virtues. It still gives reason to many families to gather together in love and sharing. It still carries buried within it the name of Christ and an awareness of what it is meant to symbolize, even through the hustle and bustle of the highly commercialized state it is in. Although they have been relegated to nearly cliché status, some of the messages of Christmas still come through, such as "It's the thought that counts" and "Tis better to give than to receive". So, as you sit back and recall the manic search for that hot new toy for the kids, the money and time invested in decorating and look forward to the New Year and the kids going back to school, stop and think, "Is this what Christmas is all about?", "Have I been paying enough attention to what is going on in the schools?", "Do I want my kids being taught this way?". It seems to be all the rage lately to characterize anyone who has a strong religious belief as a zealot or fanatic, but is that because we really think they are, or because we are ashamed that we do not have anything that we believe that strongly in?  Will your New Year really be a NEW year or just another year of the same apathy and denial?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
~sincerely~

So, what have you got to say?

Let me know and I'll tell you if it's worth 2 cents!

 Christmas Stories

until i was about 8 or something from the time i could remember.... we always put on the birth of Jesus play in my basement for the adults (which i later learned that they were so sick of us putting it on *L*) anyway... i was the only girl and of course the best so i was always Mary and i would put my cabbage patch doll under my dress/shirt.. my older cousin Brian was always Joseph and Jamie was the donkey and Andrew and Shannon were the wise men... so i would ride around on Jamie's back to the pillows (which were suppose to be hay) and out would pop my cabbage patch doll (Jesus) and then the end *L* i always remember that.. and thinking i always heard Santa at night... ~me(f)

I missed out on what would have to be the most memorable Christmas for my family. Missed out cause I wasn't even a thought yet.. It would have to be the year that my sister decided that she didn't want to wait another six weeks to enter the world and made her appearance early morning on Christmas Eve. ~Kimber™
