Q & A
MichiganStorm™

The Game: The game Honesty is based on Truth or Dare, but without the dare. When actually playing the game one player asks a question and all have to answer honestly, including the player who asked the pending question. For the new Ezine version of the game I will ask a new question each week and all ChatHouse® chatters are welcome [and invited] to send in a response. The following week not only will a new question be asked, but the answers to [any] previous questions that we recieve will also be posted, including my own.

Please send all answers to ch_zine@hotmail.com and be sure to include the handle under which your input should be posted [if a handle is not submitted, there will be no handle posted with the response]. If you have any questions you'd like asked in our Q & A section, please send them to the same address! Thank you.

The Question:
If you could go back to any era in history, where would your time machine take you and why?

The Answers:
Last Weeks Question: If you had the chance to ask one historical figure only one question, who would it be and what would you ask?
I guess that would have to be Laura Ingals Wilder*S*......reading all her books as a child has such an impact on my life......I would love to sit and talk to her about all her adventures on the prairie. I would love to live back in the time when she did and live life the way they did back then. Seems like there was so much more family values and closeness than there is today. RodeoGirl

It would have to be Pierre Elliot Troudeau so I could ask him why he screwed Canada up so bad*L* Colt 45

hitler..... why he was so f*cked in the head me(f)

The author of the bible! ...question would be...What the hell are you on!!??? *cacklin* Fict¡tiousFaith

I would ask historical figure Tommy Lee how he could possibly mess up his marriage where he got to do Pamela Anderson. Jokester

I would have gone back to around say,.....the 60 sometime....or was it the late fifties? I don't know I wasn't even a thought then, and I would have Asked Marilyn Monroe....not to commit suicide. *S* if she were alive today....there would be thousands more happy men, Granted they would be retired, but still....it would be worth it, she is still a legacy. Romy™

Ben Franklin ....what was he thinking flying that damn kite...doesnt he know he could of died? SassyBratt

Debborah Smith ...what possessed her to flatten her chest to look like a man to fight a man's war? Nature Girl

i'd ask God .......if sex before marriage is sooo wrong.....why does it feel so good.......AND if love is supposed to be so good.....why does it hurt? just me(f)

i would ask henery 8th and ask why did you have 8 wives instead of the dirty dozen? Mariella

I would ask Adolf Hitler where he got his drycleaning done ChromeDragon

Tsar Nicholas 11.....why the bloody hell didn't you leave the palace when you were told to! ~*Anna*~

I'd like to meet Hitler as well. Simply because I've never seen true evil, genius, and madness all in one being before. Pretty Kitty69

Notradamus I would ask What is the future of mankind and the earth LONESOME WOLF

I'd ask our 'dear chairman mao' why did you provoke suffering in the name of socialism? the one theology which was preported to stop suffering? Ducati

I would ask General Grant why he didn't pick a better picture for the 50 dollar bill mountain mist (m)

Once again I've asked a question I find hard to answer. I'd like to talk to Annie Oakly and ask her what her life was like or Henry McCarty (AKA William H. Bonney / Billy The Kid) and ask him the same. There are tons of historical figures I'd love to just talk to and listen to, but to choose only one..... It's so hard because I'd love to talk to so many, but I'd ask most of them the same question "what was it like to be you?" MichiganStorm™

Jesus Christ. Who are you? Chatmonster

If I had the Pleasure of meeting a historical figure who whould it be and what whould i ask him/her .......Well There are to historical figures I would like to meet... One would Be Mary Queen Of Scots.. I would ask her what it felt like to know that her own sister beheaded her .. as well as asking her to know more of her family background... you see she is a Part of my family ;) pretty cool huh ? we traced my family history back that far .. The second person would more then likly be Adolph hitler Only to ask him why he was such moron and started a war.. For such pathetic and stupid reasons.. Well -=looks them over again=- Those are my ppl I would want to meet .. Most definatly Jenn

Borrowed from

  Taurus April 20 - May 20
Mercury, whilst doing a trick with it's skateboard trying to impress Venus, does a faceplant in your kitchen, scattering the various things you might find in a kitchen. Or your kitchen, to be specific.
You can take this one of two ways:
1) You can appreciate that Mercury has finally gotten over you and has moved on to other people and/or celestial bodies, or
2) You now have an excuse to eat out more, your kitchen being in ruins.

  Leo July 23 - August 22
You wish desperately it was your kitchen that was in ruins.
As it isn't, you simply have to use the excuse that you're too lazy to get up and walk to the kitchen, when there's a 'phone so nearby and a whole range of numbers you can call that will magically produce food for you after 20 minutes or so.
This is a remarkably more successful step up from those magic beans you'd tried earlier in the year.

Virgo August 23 - September 22
Magic beans, pshaw! If you've got magic beans to produce food magically you might as well cook anyway. It's like that guy that tried to sell you the magic oven last year that food appeared out of if you put it in first and pushed loads of buttons and turned things. He wasn't a terribly good salesman, really. This is the week to get your finances in order. Or put it off to next week. Or have someone else do it for you. Or to ignore our advice altogether.

  Gemini May 21 - June 20
You will be seduced and then tied into a pretzel-like shape by a tall, dark stranger this week. Past that the week will be pretty uneventful.

  Capricorn December 22 - January 19
The box of candy that has mysterious appeared on your coffee table with the label 'Eat Me' is not to be trusted. Give a few candies from it to the neighborhood kids first, to see if they enjoy the candy and don't die horribly. If that works out well ('working out well' being, of course, that none of them die, or at least not most of them) you should assume the first sentence refers to anything the box of candy may or may not say.

Cancer June 21 - July 22
Your fiddling around with the television on Tuesday night will, unbeknownst to you (unless you're reading this before Tuesday, of course, or reading it after and realizing in hindsight), disrupt tense negotiations between two nations inclined to have tense negotiations and have the negotiations break down while everyone sits around and tunes in to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Regrettably you have to sit around watching a bunch of fat guys in a room staring at the television (though at the time you simply thought it was CNN's regular programming).

Pisces February 19 - March 20
Your third favorite wig (the one with the orange bits that look like horns) goes missing on Friday, possibly the most horrible day to lose a wig. You will have a loaded week.

  Aries March 21 - April 19
Your week will have a delightful biscuit bottom. Ehm... take that in whichever manner you like.

  Libra September 23 - October 22
Do you remember the witches from Mac Beth? Well, do you? Nice. Well, just checking, anyway. Your week will have three more minutes than everyone else's this week.

The Latest Virus
SirCam

The latest virus making the news is SirCam. I have devoted my article to this virus for a few reasons. One reason is that I personally received this virus and also the numerous Chathouse email addresses have been receiving this virus as well. Thanks to top-notch anti-virus programs (( and experience )), the Chathouse and myself are protected from such viruses doing any damage, but many of you are not. Especially those of you who may be relatively new to the internet.

What is SirCam?
SirCam is a malicious program with characteristics of a worm--a self-propagating piece of destructive code--and a virus, a malicious program that attaches itself to other files. It also has qualities of a "Trojan horse" in that it poses as a harmless file. How can I tell if a message I receive is infected by SirCam? All SirCam messages arrive with an attachment and an e-mail subject line, but these are different for every SirCam message. That's because each time the SirCam worm infects a computer, it randomly plucks a document from that computer and sends itself out with the document attached--drawing the e-mail subject line, and the name of the attachment itself, from the title of the pilfered document.

(( For more information ))

A friend, who is also a programmer says,
This virus has its own SMTP agent built-in, so it will run independently of your email client. Most antivirus programs have updates that you can now download and quarantine this virus. Because it eventually will find other files on your system to infect, and might impede the operation of some programs.

How dangerous is SirCam?
The main threat posed by the worm is possible security breaches from its propagation method. By attaching randomly chosen documents to itself, the worm could share confidential information with others. SirCam also can perform several destructive acts based on a combination of arcane PC settings and chance.

Old Gods Haven

The Gods Haven would like to announce:

We are opening the Old Gods Room for a week in the search and hopes of having more people visit and roleplay with us. The room is freestyle though characters may be based in VtM. We do not recognize dice and we don't care much for stats. We try for the old fashioned fair roleplaying where many times even characters were greeted when they entered. We share our story with everyone in the room unless we are roleplaying in PM. Sex does belong in PM.
The password while this is going on is

The Haven is our home and is not a bar and grill or club situation. The main room is set up very much like the Old VC was. The Haven is set upon the top of a mountain that is set off out in the boonies and so just not anyone could get to it. Most of the regular players show up in the evening like about 10pm CST. We hope to see some new / old faces of the East Wing there. *S* Old Gods Haven is at: http://www7.chathouse.com/room130

Stolen Forum Post
once again i see the lack of orginality in here with the SONG postings....come on be orginal and write what means something to you. Granted songs do so inspire, but they tell the story of the teller, not the listener. The listener might be able to relate, but not to the extend of the teller. So tell your own damn stories with your own damn words...cause your interpetations suck the llama's ass.

Well it's out, and it's unanimous!!

 RantMaster explains,

Upon request, I have finally put up part 1 and part 2 of the piece of fiction I have been writing for my zine Cosmic Echoes. Comments and critique are welcome.
However, at this time the story is still only in .doc format, so you may not be able to read them if you don't have the right plugins.

Part 2

HomePage Help
By MichiganStorm™

I remember when I was just starting out and wanted to make my own homepage, it seemed like I'd never learn how. I thought I'd never have one as nice as those I'd visited that belonged to others. Then I went to the GeoCities help chat where I met a fellow chatter, GussiedUp aka GussieWitch. She sent me to a website tutorial where I learned the basics in HTML and from there I expanded my knowledge by asking questions, trying new things myself and mostly by right clicking my mouse and clicking "view source". Of course, if you don't know the basics of HTML right clicking and looking into other peoples codes won't help you much!

This new section of the Ezine is for anyone who would like to build a homepage as well as anyone who just might want to learn something new or maybe looking for just a few tips on the subject! If you have questions about basic HTML or anything else involved in the building of your homepage, please email them to ch_zine@hotmail.com and your email along with an answer will be posted here. If I don't know the answer, I'm sure someone on our staff or ChatHouse staff can find the answer for us!

Step one of building your homepage:
Step one is obviously deciding to make the effort and build a home for yourself on the web. I believe homepages are only a reflection of the work and effort you put into them, thus the more of yourself you put into it, the better the finished product will be. However, on that note, I also believe that a homepage is never finished! You might think you've finished it at some point, but then along comes some new interest or new pictures, etc. that you want to add. That's the best thing about them, as long as there is space left on your account you can add and add and add and...

Now that you've decided to build a homepage the next step is to either

    A) learn basic HTML or
    B) purchase a program such as FrontPage express or
    C) sign up somewhere that uses the drag and drop page builder so that you don't actually have to put any effort forth.
For those of you with Windows 98 or newer, you may already have an editor on your computer. Find out by clicking your start button, scroll up to Programs, then slide your mouse over to Internet Explorer. When the small pop up menu pops up, read it carefully, if you see the words FrontPage Express then you have a fairly easy to use program already on your computer.

However, I'm not a big FrontPage supporter, my suggestion is A, learn HTML. It might sound difficult, but it was one of the easiest things I think I've ever done. The tutorial I was sent to and that I used to teach myself HTML is no longer online so I did some searching-

www.boogiejack.com: Here you will find intense HTML tutorials along with free graphics, webmaster tools, computer tips, virus-hoax alerts, a few different HEX color charts and more.

www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/node/1533/htmlhelp.html: This site is made by the first person to ever help me with HTML! Her site has tons of HTML help in easy to understand formats!

www.tigerherbs.com/eclectica/freedom/htmlhelp.html: This site doesn't have HTML tutorials, but what it does have is about twenty links to sites that have HTML, Java, CGI and other tutorials! Perhaps you'll find a tutorial through one of these links that you find easier to learn from than those previously given. Never hurts to look?
Step three is to decide if you want to pay for your own "domain" or if you'd like to take advantage of some of the free, hosted space. I say if you can get it free, take it! Unless you're hoping to make money of your homepage, why worry about having your own domain? Something like that can always come later, but for just starting out -

www.angelfire.com offers free webspace for homepage owners, they give you 50 megs to play with. What I didn't like about Angelfire when I tried it out [when the Ezine was first started it was on Angelfire space] was the fact that it automatically gives you subdirectories and when you upload files it automatically put them into the subs, with the exception of HTML files that is. I'm not sure if Angelfire has stopped doing this yet, but they used to do it. What happens when your files go into these subs? Well, you have to adjust your codes so that when the page is loading the browser knows where to find the graphics... I hope this is making sense. An example would be something like this: Instead of the code reading {IMG SRC="file.jpg"} it would read {IMG SRC="images/file.jpg"}. Well, I know what I mean just the same *L*.

www.geocities.com also offers free webspace for homepage builders. Geocities is where I hang my homepage! They offer HTML tools and editors for everyone from the newbies to the experts with 15 Megs space. You might not get as much space as you would if you signed up with Angelfire, but I believe that GeoCities is easier to use and isn't down as much as Angelfire, these are my opinions of course. GeoCities lets you decide if you want to use subdirectories or not, lets you name them should you use them. They offer easy to install counters and other additional goodies! Their "file manager" is easy to use and easy to understand and best of all your URL is short and easy to remember.

    freeservers.com also offers free webspace.

There are many places that offer you free space, go to your favorite search engine and type "Free homepages" [include the quotation marks] and hit enter! You'll be surprised at what you find.

Next week I'll be posting links to great background and graphics sites as well as sites that offer easy to use HEX color code tables! Happy building!

My Two Cents on
Separation of Church and State

U.S. Constitution - Bill of Rights
Amendment I
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

The Establishment Clause of the Constitution has been the subject of much debate. The opposing forces interpret it quite differently. The separationists interpret it as meaning that since government cannot Constitutionally endorse religion, then the government must remain completely secular and separate from any religious context. However, the "Religious Right" and others interpret it as meaning the government cannot establish a single, accepted, government sanctioned religion.

In viewing history, notably the history of the Founding Fathers, we see that on one hand they spoke very strongly of church-state separation. Having the Reformation and religious persecution in England fresh in their minds that would be expected. However, America was a strongly religious Protestant country from its very birth. Those same Founding Fathers spoke just as strongly and eloquently in their expression of their individual religious beliefs. The phrase 'In God We trust' on our currency, the use of chaplains in government functions such as Congress, etc. all speak to their belief that religion has a place in society, both public and private, and is indicative of a moral society.

Now granted, the opposing forces of the church-state separation debate take extreme positions, one side seeking the eradication of religion and the other promoting Judeo-Christian beliefs almost exclusively. There are several political happenings recently which bring this debate to the forefront once again. President Bush's Faith-Based Initiative, a Virginia Federal Court ruling that a moment of silence to begin the school day IS Constitutional, etc. The common thread through these is the fact that they do NOT favor or endorse any particular religion over another. The moment of silence merely gives anyone of any religious persuasion the opportunity for silent prayer to begin the school day. The Faith-Based Initiative opens up federal money to churches and religious groups who provide social services and would be available to any and all religions. So, in the literal sense neither of these actions could be misconstrued as "establishment of religion".

However, there is also the issue of the governments influence over the religions themselves. For example, hiring laws. With churches and religious groups receiving federal funds, should the government be able to FORCE them to hire people that violate their religious beliefs? Many religions condemn homosexuality, but by receiving government funds would these religions be required to hire homosexuals? If an atheist applied for a job at a Catholic social services center, could they sue the Catholics if they didn't get hired because they were an atheist?

Personally, being a religious person myself, I would much rather see my tax dollars go to support faith-based social services than godless secular social services. HOWEVER, not if it means that government has a say in how my faith chooses to provide those services. By imposing government restrictions on proselytizing (preaching) to those receiving the social services and by regulating the hiring practices and controlling atmosphere of those social services, the government would in fact be violating the second part of the Establishment Clause "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...".

The left-wing secular extremists have run the country for quite long enough, run it into the ground in fact. It is time that we got back to the values that this country was founded on, however I don't advocate any radically extreme paradigm shift. The secular left has been violating the 'free exercise thereof' part of the establishment clause for years. I firmly believe that we can freely exercise our religion, both publicly and privately, without the government establishing a religion. Voluntary prayer or moments of silence in public schools, support for faith-based social services, etc. can all be achieved without infringing on anyone's "rights". Students who want to pray can and those that don't want to need not be forced to. People seeking social services have a choice of facilities. If they don't want religion then they can seek out secular services, but those who ARE religious can seek services from like-minded believers rather than being forced to seek help from the godless.

Separation of church and state is NOT an impenetrable wall. It is merely a guideline, mile marker or warning sign to protect us from the establishment of a "one, true, national religion". While the majority of Americans are of Judeo-Christian faiths, we do not close the door to other religions. Nor should we close the door to religion as a whole as we have done in respect to 'public institutions' in the past. We are a nation of freedoms, not exclusions, so it is high time we again recognize the religious freedom our nation was founded on and remove the second-class status that has been placed on religious institutions in America.

That's My Two Cents, Deal With It!
