Note:Once again it's late, my apologies. But between working ten hours a day I've been sick and if that wasn't enough this morning when I got home and was going to work on the ezine we had a lightening storm outside so once again the damn computer was rendered worthless and unplugged. I can't help but wonder what will happen next.... Michigan Storm™

"My Online Story"

*L* I first came online in March of 98' the first room I ventured into was a room on the Next Level called the Fish Tank referred to by the regs as the Tank *L* I hated it there..so I moved to the windy city where I met my first online sis LGE..she was great we laughed and she introduced me to many of her friends and we all became the WCBS *L* long story..i loved the WCBS but I met a guy in there and well after that the room just wasnt the same so from there I moved to my home the Diner better known as Joe's in Joe's I met so many friends I met Romy and Teddy first *L* what a bunch of characters..

I have spent the majority of time chatting in Joe's I have made friends there and even met someone very special there, things change and life does as well ...some people I have lost touch with and others I see from time to time..I have made friends and have sisters and have even met many offline in person...I have not ever met a person that I didnt like or who was not like they are in chat :)

I have kinda removed myself from chat lately but I still wander in from time to time..I still have my friends that email me and that I talk to on the phone I have built some long lasting relationships from chat and I am blessed by each one...I have been through rough times too but it is all worthwhile...I thank the Chathouse for giving us all a forum to reach out to those around the US and around the world :) ..

Horoscopes
By Texas Storm

  Aries March 21 - April 19
Tell others what they want to hear. Be sincere, because sooner or later your stretches of the truth are going to catch up with you. Starry-eyed potential and hardheaded reality begin falling into line.

  Taurus April 20 - May 20
Your fondest wish quietly joins the list of possibilities. There's still much work to do, and many wrong turns to avoid, but you're ready to try again. It's time to separate the dreams from the nightmares.

  Gemini May 21 - June 20
Check all unnecessary baggage at the door. You feel light on your feet, and too good to work. Tell your tale to all who will listen, but try to do it a little differently each time.

Cancer June 21 - July 22
You've been here before, and it looks too familiar. Don't let reflex guide you through the same menu choices. A recent experience can be a springboard into something different.

  Leo July 23 - August 22
You have no time to relax and play, yet those things are integral to your process. Strike a balance between theory and results. Instead of perfection, your main concern should be stability.

Virgo August 23 - September 22
Don't ask for help unless you really need it. Differences in style can lead to charges of ignorance or worse. Inspiration will probably strike when you least expect it.

  Libra September 23 - October 22
Reconciliation is in the air. Extend a friendly hand to brush aside the differences that ultimately don't matter. Love moves you forward into a dream come true.

Scorpio October 23 - November 21
You can't stay home forever, even if you're in the middle of doing something there. The world is full of unfinished business. A drive for completion guides you through all that you attempt.

  Sagittarius November 22 - December 21
With Aquarius exerting a lunar influence, this day is sure to carry dreams and visions. Ideas change color. Inspiration has a life of its own. Carry a camera or recorder so that you miss nothing.

  Capricorn December 22 - January 19
Nothing is safe, but neither is anything sacred. Panic won't get you anywhere. Instead of denying or hiding, you should be exploring. This impermanent situation could be the gateway into a new kind of stability.

  Aquarius January 20 - February 18
Your week begins with the full effect of changes that you've set in motion. Let others do all the talking as you stand back in awe of what you have wrought. This is where the dream gets really good.

Pisces February 19 - March 20
As the day passes, you slip into the leading position. Others may have their ideas, but you know beyond the shadow of a doubt. It's lonely being right, but you'll survive.

Reading

My Book Review: Well, I'm not writing about the WWF this week, or anything on the tele for that matter. Instead, I'm going to adress the book I'm reading this week. I hope some of you at least take a wee bit of time off the computer to dive into a good old fashioned book, one of the first types of entertainment brought to us long before sports-entertainment. I've never been a big Stephen King fan when it came to books, as a matter of fact until the past few years he hadn't written a book I could read without getting bored, but his books make pretty good movies! Pet Semetary was one of his few books I read in it's entirety, but that was years ago. It was another book I read, but that too was a long time ago. Other than those two books I had watched his books turn into movies, but not read the pages, until recently. I believe it was a couple years ago when The Green Mile series was released and I was hooked! Those books blew the movie out of the water in my opinion and the movie was awesome, so what does that tell you? The books were extraordinary!! Then The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon was released a year or so ago and that quickly became my favorite King book, aside from The Green Mile of course. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is a relatively short book, but so worth the day it takes to read it! Take a day off the net and relax with a good book!! Now, I'm presently nearing the end of his latest venture, one that has held my interest almost as much so as the previously mentioned two books. Dreamcatcher is the story of four New England men and Mr. Gray, the uninvited guest. It's in hardcover right now so if you're the thrifty type wait for soft cover and grab a copy! It's written in a different style than I can recall any of his books I've attempted to read, but it's damn GOOD!

Dear §enileFanta§y & AmericanGirl@Heart

I first started coming online 5 years ago.....and shortly after coming online was introduced to chathouse....namely the Wild West Wing and became addicted to chatting instantly*L*. I have made some very good friends there.....and as a result of that have met a great many of my chat friends in real time since then. In fact I met my real time other half in there also.*BS* We were good chat friends for the first 3 years.....then decided we wanted to go just a lil further and meet in real time......did the traveling thing from Texas to Canada for 2 years and then the end of last year I moved from Texas to Canada for good!! I have also helped host 4 different Chat Gatherings in Texas over the years and have met people from all parts of the world. The last one we had before I moved one of our chatting friends from Australia came over and we finally got to meet her after 3 years of chatting with her*BS*.....I have ventured to other floors in the Chathouse.....but the Wild West Wing remains my first home. The West Wing is a more laid back area where alot of the Older people go and have alot of fun. Don't get me wrong.......we still have the occasional moron that comes in and tries to ruin chat for everyone. But all in all we have a great time in there.

How has my "online" life changed since I started chatting here?? Well, I still chat.*L* Not nearly as much as it was when I first came online.....but still I pop in everyday to say hello to everyone and catch up on the daily goings on there. The other half still chats there also, and occasionaly we go in the same room and chat, which is hilarious since our desks and computers are only feet apart in the same room.*LOL* We still laugh at the people that come in just looking for cyber sex and that pm either of us right off. Can be a real hoot too when a person is trying to hit on the other one. Our online time hasn't really changed since moving together. We still have the same friends, we still both go in and chat or whatever we need to do on our online time. One thing we don't let happen, is we don't let "online crisis's" interfere with our real time life. Yes, we have both made a great many good friends that that have carried over to real time and we worry with them, feel excitement with them over an upcoming event. But we don't let the online fueds carry over to us. Ok so we have a boring life you say??*LOL* Nothing could be farther from the truth. We still have a great life offline.....and a fun time with our friends online.

Happy chattin folks!!
AmericanGirl@Heart

The Message Center

Email Problem:
Sometimes going through the forums or rooms, I have come across many instances where I would have liked to email many of you. Whether it be for your opinion on a matter, more input into something you have said in a room or forum, or to respond to a post of yours asking for help or input, but by the time I've come across your post, it's a few days later and it's doubtful you'll be checking for further replies, or that my response is one I wish for only you to see.
The problem I'm coming across alot of the time is, the chatters I wish to email haven't clicked the option so they may receive Anon-E-Mail

If you wish for those that chat within the Chathouse to be able to email you without having them know anything more about you then just your handle, Then simply click Yes!

To check or change your Anon-E-Mail status, simply click on the above link. You can also get to this page by clicking on any Features link on any floor or inside any room and then on Message Center. And as with most Chathouse links, when clicking these links a separate window will open. So not only can you change your status while chatting, you can also send emails!

And remember, Anon-E-Mail, is 100% anonymous! The only thing the person receiving your email will know of you from the email is your handle, and the only thing you need to know of them, is their handle!

Give Water
While looking for a forum post to steal this past week, I came across a post that I thought was not only  for a good cause, but that it was pretty good of the person not only to click the link and move on, but to take a few extra minutes to post it in the forum for others to click.

Give Water is a fundraising site where Thames Water has promised to give £50,000 if a goal of  2 million "clicks" is reached.
The money raised there is too provide tool kits to dig wells so that over 10,000 people can have safe drinking water for life.

You need only go to the Give Water link and then click on the picture there that you see above. Thats it!!  So please take an extra minute or two to do so. Thank You!

Random Quotes
If you wish to have your handle mentioned when submitting a quote, please add it in the email itself. There are some that have had their handle as part of their email address, but unless the quote is actually signed with your handle, it will be assumed you wish to stay anonymous.

New Games
Recently there have been a few new games added to the game site. I was wondering if I could get a few of you who play them to email me, in your own words, a brief description and rating of them? Any chatters that play these games are welcome to email in, all except
mikeoh of course! Who, ever so badly, needs to be removed out of that first place spot in BlackJack and Feed The Pig!

Added  Quotes
Two quotes were picked this week to be added to the Random Quotes.
The first was sent in by
~LadyChrys~
The second one was sent in anonymously.

² "if all of life is a stage, where is the audience sitting?"

² "Scientists say 1 out of every 4 people is crazy, check 3 friends, if they are ok, your it"

To submit your favorite quote, joke, bumper sticker or motto for a chance to win and be added to the Random Quotes, email it in, along with your handle to,

My Two Cents
on the Internet
Part 4

Could the internet bring true "representation" back into our "Representative Government"? Are the lines of communication between the politicians and the people they represent starting to open up again? Can our voices be heard over the lobbyists via the internet?

Could the internet put the TRUTH back into the News? With alternative sources of News and Information, could the internet break the monopoly of the "liberal media" in the dissemination of the News?

These are interesting questions, but unfortunately our media outlets and government representatives are not quite up-to-date with modern technology, at least not on the public scale! I found an interesting website that gives you access to both Washington and the Media. It's called Mr. Smith E-Mails... and you can email Washington or The Media. The Mr. Smith E-Mails Washington is more of a survey where you can select an issue that concerns you and enter your own comments as well. The Mr. Smith E-Mails the Media gives you access to submit "letters to the editor" of several magazines.

Contacting your State and Federal Representatives directly is a little more involved. I found several sites that give email addresses for Congress (Senate and House of Representatives), but many of the elected officials from my state did not have email addresses posted on these sites. I had to hit several sites to collect most, but not all, of the representatives from my state. Finding email addresses for members of my State Legislature was much, much harder. I was able to find sites that gave homepage addresses for my State Officials, but had to visit each page individually to find out if they had an email address or not. So basically, on the issue of government using the internet to stay in better contact with the people they represent, I would have to give MY State Representatives a B- on the Federal level and a D- on the State level for use of the internet to help them govern "by the people and for the people". The best site I found for getting the email address of your elected officials in Washington was ElectedNet which gave the most email address of any site I found and was the easiest to use. For a less user-friendly, plain text, printable listing try Congressional email addresses and Websites.

One note: Due to sheer volume that email is capable of, many government officials will not respond to or accept email from any other than their "constituents". To find and write to YOUR Congressman/woman use Write a Rep or Contact the Senate for your Senator. Many request that you include your name and postal mail address as well, to identify you as a constituent, and no doubt to be added to their campaign contributions mailing list!

If you can track down you State government officials email address (Good Luck), then by all means send them an email and inform them they need to get with the program here!

On the media side, reporting the truth vs. spin doctoring, the picture is much gloomier! On the bright side there is a veritable smorgasbord of News and Information sources available on the Internet, from the Drudge Report to CNN to the Associated Press and every size and type of media outlet in between. While many of them have feedback forms, forums or email addresses for comments, NONE of the ones I have ever written to have responded or addressed my comments in any way, except for the AM radio talk show hosts!  ~LOL~ The bad news is that you can surf from one to the next to the next to the next and each and every one of them will tell the same story just a little bit differently or from a different perspective.

WHY? Well it all boils down to this, News and information is given by PEOPLE and people have their own preconceived notions, beliefs and opinions. No matter how much they espouse "journalistic ethics" or other code of ethics, each and every source of information will reflect (to varying degrees) the person writing it. Add to this the fact that the internet has empowered people from the far-far-far-right and the far-far-far-left and everywhere in between to join the fray of propaganda on the Net! TRUTH has become a subjective term and for all the criticism of the News media (TV and print) for a lack of objectivity, the internet is much, much less objective! My only recommendation for those in search of the Truth is to search far and wide. The more sources you get your information from the better and you must develop the ability to "read between the lines". Knowing that everything you see, hear or read must be taken with a grain of salt and once you have researched the same topic from at least 5 or 6 different sources and perspectives, then and only then can you begin to decipher the truth within.

The internet and the "information" available through it has, more than anything before, highlighted the need for people of the world to develop their critical thinking skills in order to find the objective truth in a sea of subjective propaganda. Unfortunately the vast amount of information available and the ease of access to it has bred a society of intellectually lazy people. Having been spoon fed the News on TV for many years by their local affiliates and national news, very few people are capable or inclined to think for themselves anymore.

In closing, in regards to government access and truth in the News, the internet is a double-edged sword!

It can give us greater access to our government officials, but with that also comes a responsibility. If I have greater access then so does the bleeding-heart liberal down the street, so if I want my voice heard I must speak up and speak often or accept the fact that the bleeding-heart down the street has MY representatives ear and attention.

It can also be an awesome source of information and News, but at the same time it requires a sharp mind to see through the propaganda. The ease of access to information breeds intellectual laziness which dulls the awareness needed to navigate through the endless propaganda!

In these two areas, government and truth, the internet is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" proposition. It is all or nothing and there is no middle ground. You are either politically active or along for the ride. You are either an active seeker of truth or one of the brain-washed minions.

Which are YOU?

I figured since I asked the other staff memebers to write about themselves and their chatting experience that I should do so as well, it's only fair eh? I had never even seen the internet before January of 1999! I was into my friends, the bar, parties add working two jobs most of the time to this and what do you get? No time to look into "new" things and not a lot of interest in technology or what comes of it, such as the internet. One night, I worked third shift then as well, I got sent home for lack of work and took a lay-off. Well, I knew that my cousin was laid-off as well so I swung by her house on my way home and she was still up. I snuck in the house and upstairs to her room where she'd just finished downloading ICQ (she'd gotten the net about a month prior) and we played on it ALL NIGHT LONG. It was great, I was hooked. We spent the next two days online and on mostly on ICQ. The following week came and she returned to work, as did I two weeks later, but she let me come over and talk on her ICQ with my new "friend". This only lasted about a week then I decided I didn't want to wear out my welcome so I gave up my new found obsession. I had moved back into my parents house not long before this all happened and in March my Mom bought a new computer and I found the Chathouse thanks to my cousin Seether™ who then went by other handles and went into the rooms on the second floor a little bit. Within two days I found Joe's Diner and it was the first room where I was welcomed no questions asked by Fantasy Girl™ who introduced me to more and more of the "regulars" of the room and within weeks I called it home. If I hadn't found this room and these people my life would be different, as weird as some might think that sounds. By November I was invited to NetGiving and I went taking my friend Mislet with me, we had a wonderful time and met some wonderful people, many of which I've seen again since then. Last year alone I went to Canada four times and spent time with Pammie, fan, Smiley (who moved there from Australia to be with fan), VC and me(f). This past winter I travelled over about 30% of the States seeing my friends again and spent 5 or 6 wonderful weeks in Texas with Texas Storm and Rider and the little storms. I've made memories that will forever be with me and made friends that I know will always be with me no matter how much the distance between us.

I've met most of those that I chat with: (of course, she's my cousin) Seether, ~rosie~, Old Romantic, fairmaiden, Lady E, Texas Storm, Rider, Materman, Lioness, Wulfman, TeDdY, fireman, angelface, ocelot, ~*Nikola*~, Baxy, Pammie, Fantasy Girl, Smiley, Josie, NH Breeze, me(f), Vulcan Classic, Lady Perk, Shatterstar, and, to be honest, I may be forgetting someone... They've all been the same people I knew online when I've met them offline.

A lot of those things I've done and the trips I've taken, I would have never done if it weren't for these terrific people that took me under their wings when I was new to the Chathouse. Besides, look at me now, little more than two years ago I didn't know what the internet was and now I make webpages and have travelled all over and met people from all over! Thank you all and thank Chathouse!!!!!
