Chathouse Ezine

January 29, 2001      Issue #43

Note: I am currently in the process of going over the old issues and making some changes and moving them to Chathouse space so that we're not at risk of Angelfire closing the account for inactivity (if they do this before I finish moving the issues, the links on the Table of Contents page will no longer work).
This weeks issue is focussed mainly on the First Floor.

This week I spent what time I could on the First Floor, or at least in the rooms where there were actually chatters chatting. I stopped in at the Hot Tub a few times and ran into an old acquaintance from when I used to visit the room more often. I was kinda let down to see only one familiar face in the room, but it had been a while since I visited. Regardless, GACG is a ton of fun to chat with so I was happy to see him again and obviously to interview him. Most of the other chatters welcomed me also and the room was pretty comfortable and laid back. I have enjoyed every "dip" I've taken in the Hot Tub!
The Ladies room, maybe the busiest room on the floor, is where I have run into one problem in the past... running into someone in there that will talk to a chatter new to the room. Now, mind you, I am speaking only from my previous experiences in the room. I got an email from Chat Diva and she says she enjoyed chatting in there even if there wasn't many speaking to her. My last visit to the room made me re-think some of my thoughts on the room. I think that you just have to stay in the room a little while then they start to open up more. This visit I ran into a handle I recognized from them writing the zine before, a previously featured chatter and another ezine reader who began talking to me straight away. I got mixed responce from a pretty common question this time of year, "who do you think will win the Super Bowl?". The room was basically split with a few who didn't care either way as long as the Bowl parties went well! Regardless, by the time I probably should have been heading to another room, I was having a great time chatting with a few of the "regulars". It seems to me it's a hard room, but once you get started chatting in there you'll have a good time!!
(stolen post)

I'll definatly be back to The Ladies room, I have a deal to work out with a chatter and had a pretty good time actually.
The Mens room was pretty quiet, but the chatters seemed relatively friendly just the same. I was surprised right away when I was welcomed within two posts, but equally surprised at how quiet the room actually was. Boomers seemed like a pretty decent room, but even being half full hardly anyone would speak. I guess my advice to you is the same as it is each time we feature a floor, go check it out and if you feel comfortable then it's a good place for you to chat. Everyone has different preferences. As for the rooms not mentioned, nothing personal but it's hard to write about a room when there is nobody to talk to in it, maybe I'll catch you next round?

The Poetry Corner
I've posted a note in the Poetry Corner forum that from now on poetry that will be posted in the zine will be taken from that forum. If you'd like to see one of the poems you've read there posted in the ezine, please leave a post in either that forum or the Ezine forum letting us know which one you'd like seen here. Thank you.
The two posted this week were selected by the only chatters who've voiced their vote so far, Ocey and Texas Storm.

Truth
by JezluxCharmva

I take what I want from you
As I have taken from others in the
Past
Love comes at a price
But it is something we can afford
As long as we sell
In the end
We can live in dreams
And keep taking what we want
Keep sliding from shadow to shadow
And remain hopeful
Forgetting the past
As fast as the future changes
We will forget forgetting
And live only in the moment
But the moment is short
And soon when all hope
Ends
And reality reveals nothing but
Insanity
We will be caught.
We will sell what it was that gave us hope
After giving away everything else for free
However we are rid of it does not matter
For we are ALL left with nothing.

My Surrender
Writen by MichiganStorm

Though I have yet to look in your eyes
And many more moons will pass before I touch your lips
I have yet to face a day without you beside me
to feel you trace my body with your finger tips.
I hear your voice in my sleep
After just one phone call I hear it constantly
Soft and husky with a trace of ego
Making me feel wanted, ending my fears
Each time I feel myself overcoming my doubts
Awaiting our next talk, our next encounter
You strand my heart and push me once more
Still today, I have faith in the man I know
Hope for the man he'll become, his dreams unknown
Other women become your life
Perhaps I will realize one day soon
That it was never meant to happen
That happiness was never meant for me
Instead I continue to believe that one day it'll be me
I've surrendered any hope of clear thinking
all desire to find someone new
I've surrendered my entire soul and identity
Yet somehow, I'm still not good enough for you.
I will gather the pieces of my sanity
and depart your company once more
I shall cradle what used to be my ego and my dreams
to carry away what's left of me.

My Two Cents
On
The First Floor

I have been chatting in the Chathouse for several year, but until recently I had never been to the First Floor, with one exception. I chatted fairly regularly for a while many moons ago in the Arizona Coffee House. However, this time around I never saw anyone in the Arizona Coffee House during any of my visits. This is just one of the many things that I found that the First Floor has in common with every other floor I have visited in the House. The more things change, the more they remain the same. The First Floor rooms seem to have all the same troubles as other rooms, but there are a couple of rooms on the First Floor whose problems take on an unusual "twist" due to the "lifestyles" of their usual clientele. Other than the "site seers" and "bashers", they unfortunately have to deal with, I found much of the First Floor to be "typical" of the Chathouse. I found friendly people, arrogant people, rude people and the inherent "feuds" that appear to be typical of chat. I was surprised, however, to see so many vacant, or nearly vacant, rooms whenever I visited. I was equally surprised when I entered one particular room to find that at least one of the chatters was familiar with my article, my opinions and my views, but yet we ended up having a very pleasant and informative chat. It did get off to a, shall we say... reserved beginning, but ended up quite interesting. There are a few rooms that I feel deserve special mention.

The Men's Room being one of them. This is where I had expected to have a rough time considering some opinions that I have posted in the past, here and in the War Room. It was here that I had a little trouble getting started. I was later told that the timing of my visit was not a good representation of the "norm". I am usually one to sit back and observe a room, rather than to engage the room in Q&A. However, in the Men's Room it was hard to be a passive observer as it appeared that the majority of the chat was going on in PM. When I did begin to question chatters as to the character of the room and it's chatters I got a variety of responses. Some open and honest and some reserved, most likely due to their familiarity with my views. Once the initial awkward stage was surpassed, it actually turned out to be a rather enlightening and enjoyable conversation.

The Hot Tub on the other hand offered no such obstacles. I was able to sit back and observe the usual friendly chit-chat, what appeared to be closer, more intimate exchanges and basically just an overall friendly atmosphere. When I did join into the conversation, I was welcomed without question and was even able to get some help on a project that I am working on. I would have to say that The Hot Tub, me being a first time visitor,  was one of the friendliest rooms that I have been in for quite some time.

Now, The Ladies Room is another story in itself. It took me a couple of tries in the Ladies Room before I was able to learn anything. My first visit apparently was during nap time or something, because I didn't see much of anyone chatting and got no replies to my attempts to initiate conversation. As they say though, Timing is everything! Eventually I was able to catch a more talkative crowd in there. Actually, I stumbled into the middle of what was described as a "bru-ha-ha". Having initiated and participated in a few Bru-Ha-Has in my day I sat back and observed. Here I was informed as well that this is not indicative of the "normal" behavior in the room, but it eventually blew over and regular chat resumed. The Ladies Room also appears to have the distinction of having the most active Forum on the First Floor, and a rather conflict-filled forum as well. One chatter told me that the conflict in the forum is a reflection of life in the Ladies Room, also claiming that the Ladies Room has an unusually high number of people leaving chat, or claiming to do so, more than any other room. One would think, by listening to this particular chatter, that the people of the Ladies Room are prone to running business off from the Chathouse. However, it has always been my experience that the people who plan to quit chatting forever, simply stop showing up, no long good-byes. My own personal belief is that the vast majority of those "claiming" to quit chatting, never to return, rarely ever do actually leave. New Room, New Handle. Poof gone forever. ~L~ Yeah Right.

In conclusion, my overall impression of the First Floor, is this:

It is basically the same as any other floor of the Chathouse. I had some good conversations in the rooms and also CLICKed the Ignore button a few times. For all the people that the Ladies Room has "supposedly" run off from chat forever, it is still, from what I saw, one of the most active rooms and forums on the First Floor. The Floor as a whole, other than being greatly under-populated in many rooms, was a surprisingly good reflection of the Chathouse as a whole.

That's My Two Cents on The First Floor

So, what have you got to say?

Let me know and I'll tell you if it's worth 2 cents!

The First Floor

This floor has 18 rooms on it,  two of which are only 3 slotted rooms. Why three? Well the Daemons are men, need I say more? There were many other rooms that weren't occupied when I stopped by.  So to those rooms, if there is anything you would like to say about your room or the floor, please feel free to email in anytime. ~S~

The Hot Tub
The 2 times I walked in here trying to get some feedback on the floor and room, I couldn't even get the time of day! Thankfully I have a well working watch and a Chathouse full of other rooms where the chatters are alot less anal!

The Ladies Room
Here's a room that I have been in many times before this week, so I may be slightly prejudice when I say that I love chatting in here! This room has the perfect mixture of it all! What ever mood you are in when you enter you can either find another in that same mood, or another who will help you change it! The Chat Stats  Show this room to be the top posting room on the floor with Sally Brown being it's #1 posting chatter of it's  Top 50 chatters  last month!  Descriptions of this room from a few of it's chatters are:
~
I've been chatting exclusively on this floor for almost 4 years... It's got some of the most opened minded people I've met through chatting... sure you get your bigots and idiots.. but you get them anywhere...So many sweet People I've met over the years definitely makeup for the bad eggs...
~ I love the Ladies Room.. been coming here for over a year now.. There are so many people here that are switch hitters.. ~winks~ I just can't get enough..
Not switch hitters like in bi.. I mean.. One day they are men.. the next they are woman.. One day they are with this one.. the next with that one.. It makes for a very nice atmosphere.. NOT!!! ~laughs wildly~

~ Once you weed through the "boys" masquerading as "bi-sexual" women.. you find that most in here are fun loving open minded individuals.. who are in it just for the laughs ... and That's what chatting should be all about.....

The Ladies Room II
I think the same chatters I ran into in the Hot Tub, must have quickly switched handles and entered this room before I walked in, to be sure they could share with me the same insightful, and ever so help opinions they have or lack thereof.

The Mens Room
The Top 50  shows that the chatter known as Wuz, to be the top posting chatter for last month, and I got lucky enough to have gotten the chance to meet him while I visited!  Zen was also another that I feel fortunate to have met there!
I don't know what all I can say about this room, except that they better be prepared, because I plan on going back, alot! Another chatter did find a few more words then myself and described this room as such:
The Mens Room has evolved to be a haven for men of Gay and Bisexual orientation. Of course, as with all such environments, it attracts people of all types.. from the fag hags who crave and receive attention here that they would not receive elsewhere to the gay bashers who get their kicks from spewing hate and vitriol. Then there is the constant flow of the tourists and transients.. with a surplus of those merely interested in the display of adult pictures.
I found that the chatters here were not only welcoming and friendly, but handled ever so graciously approximately an hour of me and all my questions. In the simplest terms I can find to describe the room and my time in here I can honestly say, it was fun! ~S~

BoOmEr'S mini-tub
Another room I found to be welcoming with those in it very willing to help with any and all questions I had. ~S~ A few of the chatters described this  floor and room as,
~ i'll tell ya what rooms i like to come to....they are the ladies room ...hottub.....and boomers.....why? because the ppl are friendly and respect you..most of the rooms gives a warm welcome where as some of the rooms i have been into are not like that they could careless if your there or not....i also like to make new friends and be able to talk to different ppl from all over the world.
~ chat.....when i first started coming to the chathouse i use to go to the other floors but got tired of all the childish stuff and not able to have a real conversation with anybody where as here on the first floor you can actually have a real conversation
~ i would tell them that the first floor is the best place to come to because you can talk to adults ...how would i describe it to them...not sure how i would do that ...the room i would recommend would either be hottub, boomers, or ladies room because of the warm welcome you get when you enter the room.

The Tunnel Of Love
A room I noticed that has more chatters in during the evening than the day, but a pretty nice group of chatters they were! Besides the demand by one female chatter for more firemen in the room ~L~ the chatters there had this to say about their room,
~
well there is one misconception about the Tunnel I would like cleared up
I am going on record to state that this is NOT the weirdest room in all chathouse close but I have been in weirder*
~ This is My favorite room on the floor because of its welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
~ may I suggest the Lavish use of the word "Surreal"...either that, or the words "Obtusely Obscene"...*laughs
