Overview
The Chathouse offers Free chatrooms for both registered and unregistered chatters, and both HTML (no client download, maximum expressive possibilities) and Java (scrolling) Chat (see the Attic or the Clubhouse for Java Chatspace).
I Want to Jump Right In!
Then what are you doing on this page? Go to The Floorplan to select a Public Access Chat Room, enter the Handle and Password of your choice, and start chatting! For a description of the floors, click here. While anyone may chat in a Public Access Chat, if you want to use our Members Only Chat Rooms you will need to Register first. All persons who use the Chathouse, are responsible for acknowledging and obeying The Chathouse® Rules.
Just the Basics, Please...
If you decide not to Register you will only be able to use the Public Access Rooms of the Chathouse. Your password and handle will be temporary, and exist only while you are in a room, they will not be saved. If you would like to Register (Registration is Free) you will need a valid E-Mail address to receive your Password. Registered users of the Chathouse may chat in the Members Only Rooms, and use features such as HTML within the Chat Rooms that allow this feature. Finally, you'll notice special features such as "Private Rooms, Intercom, Search, Family Tree and Message Center." These features are reserved for Chathouse Subscribers. If you would like to become a paying subscriber of the Chathouse, then please visit the Chathouse Corner Store. If not, you can continue to chat and use our other features for free.
Okay, How do I Chat? We have had a lot of chatters thank us for hosting and designing such an easy-to-use chat environment. You can go to How To Chat (Basic and Advanced) for full details, or simply read the condensed version here:Tell Me Everything!
- Use The Floor Plan to Pick a Room.
- On the Entry Page of each Room, there is a space provided for you to enter your Handle (chatting name) and your Password.
- Click on the "enter" button and the Chat Daemon will announce your entrance to all the Chatters in that room.
- Type your chat message to the room in the box provided and click the "chat" button. The room page will reload and your message will appear on the screen next to your Handle.
- In order to continuously keep up with the conversation, you must continually click on the "chat" or "get new messages" button. This will clear your screen of old messages and show you the new messages that are posted.
- To send a Private Message to another Chatter, scroll down your screen, select the "PM" checkbox next to their Handle, and type your message in the smaller text area box with a "whisper" button.
- To Ignore a particular Chatter, select the "Ignore" checkbox next to their Handle. You may Ignore Public Messages and/or Private Messages from any number of selected individuals.
- When you wish to stop chatting in a room, select the "exit forum" button to leave or the "switch rooms" button to go to another room.
- Java (Scrolling) Chat is available in the Attic.
