Handles (and Edit Profile)
What is a Chathouse® Handle?
Your Handle is your Chathouse®
name; it's like having a nickname that you use while you chat. You can
just be yourself or you can call yourself anything you like. However,
we ask that you follow the guidelines listed in The
Chathouse® Rules! Naturally we discourage offensive or
obscene Handles. Represent yourself well! It makes for a friendlier
chat experience.
Who can use this feature?
Every chatter in the house! Non-registered users may choose a different
Handle every time they enter a room
in the Chathouse®. However, this Handle is limited to 15 characters,
no HTML, is not secure, and is lost as soon as you exit that chat room.
Registered and Subscribed Members may use any one of their Registered
Handles to chat. Handles are case sensitive and no two Handles
can be exactly alike.
How does this feature work?
Chatters are identified by their Handle while in a room chatting. Messages
are left for chatters in the Message Center by Handle, Telegraphs are
sent to chatters in rooms by Handle, Friend Finder will display friends
it has found for you by Handle...
Why would I want a Registered Handle?
Registered and Subscribed Members may use the same Registered Handle
again and again. Registered Handles also may include HTML tags as part
of the Handle, or, even be an image (up to 8K) as the Handle. An image
Handle will be represented by this icon on Who's in the House pages
and be hyperlinked to the image:
Because you are able to Register up to four (4) Handles with the same
Password and valid E-Mail address, you can develop a different persona
for each room you chat in. A Registered Member will only lose a Registered
Handle if they have not used that Handle in the Chathouse® for
30 days. (If Registered Members wish to change a Handle, simply do not
use the undesired handle for 30 days, and then, use that empty "slot"
for the new Handle.) Subscribed Members have Registered
Handles that do not expire. This gives Subscribers guaranteed
Exclusive use of their choice handles for the duration of their subscription.
No one else may use that name. Just think: you could be Cleopatra or
Alexander the Great forever. Subscribed members may use Edit Profile
to change their handles at any time. Cornerstone, Foundation and Sponsor
Level Subscription Members also receive their choice Registered Handle
on an Official Chathouse Member Certificate signed by Micky, the Chatmaster
and Vice, the Chathouse Artist!
